PORTLAND THROWS A GREAT PARTY
Anybody whose ever met Andrea knows that she loves her birthday. She loves celebrations in general, but birthdays are the best. She can even give you an eloquent explanation of why May 25 is the best day for a birthday. Valentine and I wanted to make sure she felt celebrated...Portland style.
PRE-BIRTHDAY ICE CREAM
We knew we couldn't pack everything into one day, so we kicked off birthday week at one of our favorite places - Salt & Straw. Every month they come out with inventive new flavors. We loved tasting the Wildflower Honey and Rhubarb Crumble. Mmmmm....
BIRTHDAY DANCE & BREAKFAST DONUTS
Birthdays around Andrea always begin at midnight with the birthday dance. She likes to dance into her big day, serenaded by Cindy Lauper's, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." I'm pretty sure the tradition originated on her dorm, and we are very serious about keeping it alive. She kicked off breakfast with her current favorite Portland donut: The Bubble Gum from Voodoo. However... after she blew out her candles, someone else made off with the actual treat.
Birthdays are about doing fun things together. We loaded up the car, and made our way to the Portland Children's Museum. Best part of all, it's only 10 minutes from our house. Valentine loved exploring, and we loved watching. Andrea even got to Facetime a few people wishing her Happy Birthday.
PORTLAND ROSE GARDEN
Wow - now we know why they call it Rose City. We were only there for a minute becauseValentine was getting hungry (and so were we). Can't wait to go back.
SHOPPING AND MOVIE DATE
This was our first Portland date with an at-our-house babysitter. Thanks so much to Lauren Kirk! We headed over to Hawthorne Street, one of the coolest areas in Portland. We did a little window shopping up and down the boulevard. For the Grand Finale, we enjoyed appetizers and a movie at the Baghdad Theater. It's almost as pretty as the Fox Theater in Atlanta, and the food options are amazing. New monthly goal: one date a month!
