Salvation was never meant to be earned. It was only intended to be obtained through faith. The scriptures here paint such a perfect picture of God’s faithfulness. Once and for all, with the precision of a lawyer, Paul underscores the necessity and the futility of the law. The law is necessary in order to show us the perfect picture of what we cannot attain apart for Christ. It is futile in perfecting our souls or earning our salvation.
This divine dilemma sets the stage for the actions of Christ on the cross. It’s beautifully described in this passage:
Romans 4:24-25: “…God will also count us as righteous if we believe in him, the one who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. 25 He was handed over to die because of our sins, and he was raised to life to make us right with God.
