Prayers for Portland

I keep a journal for Portland that I write in time to time.  I want to record prayers and dreams regarding the church that Jesus is going to build [Spring of Life].  Today in my quiet time, I read some amazing scriptures that I want to use as I intercede for the city.

Ever since I read Beverly Cleary’s Dear Mr. Henshaw, I have always addressed my journal entries to a person.  It feels more personal.  Lately, I’ve written each entry to Jesus.  He’s way better than Mr. Henshaw.

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for your Word.  It is your only hope.  There are two verses I want to begin praying for Portland.

John 1:4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Jesus, you are the light.  Light pierces darkness…every time.  Darkness will never overcome the light of this world.  I pray that your light will shine in Portland.  Jesus, use me, Andrea, and others to shine your glory.  I pray we would burn brightly and unashamedly for you.  I pray we would love the culture, and I pray we would speak into the culture.  Let there be a supernatural presence about us.  Jesus, please disrupt the darkness.  Send a disruption in the evil spiritual ranks they cannot overcome.  Jesus, you always overcome and overwhelm the enemy.  Send your presence to Portland.  Shake the people to their core.  Let them be radically saved and transformed.

2 Corinthians 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. 5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, 6 being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.

Jesus, raise up our Portland team.  Place strong and godly people on the team.  Teach us to fight in the way you would have us to fight.  Teach us not to rely on the methods of this world.

“Our weapons are not of the flesh…”

- arguments

- techniques

- agendas

- technology

Help us to see the difference between our “weapons” and our “tools.”  Teach us that it does require “weapons.”  That means we are undergoing warfare.  Fight on our behalf.  Let us rest in you.  Let us be overwhelmed in our satisfaction in you.  Teach us joy we’ve never seen.  Show us love we’ve never known.  As we pour ourselves out, fill us up….with your Spring of Life.  I feel so raw before you.  When I am weak, then I am strong.

Jesus, I love you.  You are the only reason I would do this - but only hope.  My chief desire.  You are worth my life and so much more.  Come quickly Lord Jesus.  I can’t wait to see you face to face.

And Give us The GUILD.
