This Unashamed Intimacy

Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings. -Psalm 17:8

This is such a provocative thing to ask of the King of the Universe.  Who am I to expect such attention?  Not only is this scripture asking God to take note of me, among the billions, but to focus affectionate attention on me.  When is the last time you asked God to keep you as the apple of his eye?  And why not?  If you haven’t, you really don’t understand what his magnificent grace and unabashed love is all about.

Don’t let us ever dare to think that we deserve the attention of God.  If we ever think we deserve this amazing grace, this incredible attention, then it immediately ceases to be profound.

The bible gives great clarity to our blood-bought standing before God.

Galatians 4:1-4
I mean that the heir, as long as he is a child, is no different from a slave, though he is the owner of everything, but he is under guardians and managers until the date set by his father. In the same way we also, when we were children, were enslaved to the elementary principles of the world. But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.

It’s always been all about Him.  It’s His desire, to extend his mercy to us.  So enjoy it - but never stop being amazed.
